Five For Friday 2010 Finale

It's that time of year where everyone starts making lists about what their favourite moments of 2010 were and what were there worst, personally I don't really believe in focusing on the worst moments so here is what I consider my top five of four different area's.

Top Five Movies
5. The Losers
4. Scott Pilgrim vs The World
3. Iron Man 2
2. Kick Ass
1. Inception

Top Five Comics/Graphic Novels
5. Invincible Volume 5 (Hardcover)
4. Blackest Night (Hardcover)
3. Batman and Robin: Batman Reborn (Hardcover)

Five For Friday 20

5. MC Mong- Chun Ha Moo Juk (Invincible)

4. Gackt- EVER

3. Ayumi Hamasaki- Marionette

Ayumi Hamasaki - Marionette - MyVideo

2. Gackt- Uncontrol (Live)

1. Ayumi Hamasaki- Evolution (Live)

Five For Friday 19

5. Gaslight Anthem The ’59 Sound
The track sounds like a cross between a Bruce Springsteen track and a Killers track with that Americana sound and haunting vocals.
4. Sniper Sound- One Nation
A fantastic Hip Hop track from some of Korea’s best hip hop artists including L.E.O, Illinit, MC Sniper, Baechigi and Outsider as well as America’s Krazie Bone from Bone Thugs N Harmony, the track flows seamlessly from one rapper to another and the group vocals in the chorus give it a great atmosphere.
3. defspiral- Dive Into The Mirror
I like how the bass gets to breathe abit in this track especially in the first verse, a great J-Rock track. Really like the guitar solo on this track.
2. Gackt- Vanilla (Live SDSN)
I’ve been listening to quite a lot of live Gackt tracks in anticipation for seeing him in July and I’m really impressed with this song in particular as during this song he’d been battling a heavy cold and had just finished singing a rather dance heavy track.
1. Gackt- U+K (Live ЯR version)
I love how fun this track sounds with the live vocals that had been altered to sound high pitched and the guitar battle mixed with a synth and guitar battle definitely a feel good track for a Friday

Five For Friday 18

5. MC Mong- Circus

4. Tucker- Swan Lake

3. Gackt- Todokanai Ai to Shitteita noni Osaekirezuni Ai

2. BoA ft The TRAX- Rock With You

1. The TRAX- Blaze Away

Friday, 19 March 2010

Five For Friday 17

5. Malice Mizer- Beast of Blood

The track has a gothic feel from the get go with the hauntingly melodic organ playing throughout with some menacing guitar sounds and chilling vocals
4. Polysics- Catch On Everywhere

I love how quirky this track is, the bass and drums really stand out and the vocals from Hayashi are mad. It's as though your listening to the Japanese version of Alvin & the Chipmunks and not Polysics.
3. Versailles- Aristocrats Symphony

The classical elements mixed with the heavy metal riffs really complement each other well though the classical elements on its own really boosts the song, it reminds me of the style that Opera Metal group Nightwish have.
2. Brown Eyed Girls- Abracadabra

The track sounds really simple and well organised with each the four vocalists taking a part of the song and making it their own.
1. Dragonland- Rusty Nail

A heavier version of the X-Japan song, while the guitar solo sounds out of place from the rest of the song, the vocals sound really strong and the vocalists ability to hold notes longer gives this version a more epic feel, that and it's strange to hear a Swedish metal group covering a J-Rock song and making it sound convincingly Japanese.

Five For Friday 16 (potentially NSFW)

*Right before I delve into the song I have been addicted to this week, I must warn you that at least two of the videos I'm posting on the blog are a little bit on the rude side in terms of the video content.*

Ok with that out of the way heres the music I've been listening to:

5. Vanilla Unity- Tomorrow
It has that anthemic feel good summer track feel to it, I love the split between Korean and English vocals, the pace doesn't get lost in the shift between the two languages.

4. G-Dragon- Breathe
The vocals are more natural in this track than they were in Heartbreaker (which featured in this FFF) but the electronic vocals used on the chorus stand out more than G-Dragon's normal vocals.

3. An Cafe- Ryusei Rocket
A really great use of synths and guitars, especially their own solo's, especially the guitar solo, it sounds really slick.

2. Electric Eel Shock- Metal Man*NSFW*
I like how the bass and drums are really heavy in this track while the guitar takes a bit of a step back.

1. Kirsten Dunst- Turning Japanese*NSFW*
There are moments in this song where it doesn't sound like this is Kirsten Dunst but then there are times where you can hear her accent coming through, the reason I say this is because I thought this was just Dunst miming the song, I think it sounds cool, a bit different but theres nothing wrong with that.
Is there?

Five For Friday 14

5. T.M. Revolution- Zips

4. Leon Lai- Sugar in the Marmalade

3.Chiddy Bang- Opposite of Adults

Chiddy Bang on MUZU

2.Outsider- Like A Man

1.Aikawa Nanase- Yumemiru Shoujo Ja Irarenai

Five For Friday 13

Ah 13,unlucky for some...

5. Rain- Sad Tango

How's this for cross-cultural, a Korean RnB artist singing in Japanese, to a Latino influenced beat, truly shows how diverse this little world of ours really is there's even an English version to this song as well, brilliant.
4. Mötley Crüe- White Trash Circus (Crüefest version)

While the original version of the song is ok the Crüefest version has this gritty boys club mentality to it with the inclusion of the vocalists from Mötley Crüe's second Crüefest tour helping out on the vocals making it a more rawkous track.
3. Polysics- Rocket

The track starts out feeling very New Wavey with the synths and Kayo's vocals before that punkish vibe kicks in with the guitar and Hiroyuki's vocals.
2. Polysics-Pretty Good

I've been listening to the English version of this song which is Pretty Good (pun fully intended) the japanese version is just as good.
1. Abingdon Boys School- Lost Reason

Originally a B-side for one of their songs (Nephilim) I found this track to be a much better song than it's A-side, not because it's mainly sung in English but because it has this great guitar sound to it.

Five For Friday 12

5. Bump Of Chicken- R.I.P
I really like how this track gets progressively faster, and then slightly mellows out after the instrumental.

4. G-Dragon- Heartbreaker
It sounds like a Flo Rida track except it's in Korean the chorus is really catchy underneath the bouncy beat.

3. My Aunt Mary- 푸른 양철 스쿠터 (Blue Tin Scooters)
I like how the bass and guitar work almost in unison in this track and the synths really strengthen the track.

2. Abingdon Boy's School- INNOCENT SORROW
This sounds like a dark track mainly thanks to the way the guitars and the synths sound in this song, my favourite part of the track is oddly enough the ending, where the guitars combine with the scratching as the tracks.

1. Jaurim- Carnival Amour
This Korean song sounds like a cross between something you would hear at a circus and a 1920's musical it has this odd energy to it at times it sounds very sunny and then it goes a bit crazy and yet it works especially the way the vocalist Kim, Yoon-Ah can switch between a deeper tone of singing voice to her regular singing voice.

Five For Friday 11

5. Fact- Reborn (original version)
This is a more rawer version of a song the band did for their debut album, it's longer than the somewhat 'edited' version that appears on their debut album, I enjoyed hearing the last 2 minutes of this song which had been left out as it shows a softer side to an otherwise heavy track.

4. MC Sniper ft Outsider and Horan- Heart Disease
The thing I enjoy about this track is Horan's singing intermixing with MC Sniper and Outsider's rapping, as a collaboration it really works and the beat is fantastic.

3. Outsider ft Basick, Carry.D of Swagger
I've been on a bit of an Outsider kick this week after downloading the Korean rappers latest album Maestro and this track is by far one of the highlights for me, it's fast paced and has some of Outsider's trademark fast rapping.

2. Fact- Slip of the Lip
This song feels as though it is influenced by post hardcore bands from America, from the guitar sounds to the second set of vocals sounding deeper than the main vocals. It makes Fact stand out from the other J Rock bands out there.

1. Outsider- Alone/Loner
What struck me about this track first off was the strings, it gives the rap a more mellowed feel, until Outsider goes into his fast rapping in the second verse and its quite amazing how he can speed up his rapping and slow it down for the chorus, the backing track initially sounds out of place but surprisingly works well with the song.

Five For Friday 8

You know the drill, lets get down to the music, mostly live songs this week I've been in the mood for songs that sound somewhat raw.

5.PXNDX (Panda)- Narcisista Por Excelencia (Live): the opening guitar intro to this track has a bit more bite to it compared to the studio version, Panda's inclusion of a live orchestra really brings the piano solo alive, giving its brief inclusion in the song more meaning.

4. Muse- Undisclosed Desires: This is quite a marmite track amongst Muse fan's because it has an RnB vibe to it which was the band's intent when constructing this song, I really do like it as it fits with new album The Resistance's feel, while the track lacks any of Muse's signature guitar or piano parts the strings in the song really give the track some meat and who doesn't love a beat of slap bass?

3. HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR- DIVE into YOURSELF: The gang vocals on the track give the song a real upbeat vibe to it, the dual vocals between Yūsuke and Mākii sounds really balanced in this track. the tempo seems to shift to a faster one towards the end of the song throwing that extra bit of energy into the sound.

2. Gackt- Koakuma Heaven (Live): Unlike the majority of Gackt's songs that I've featured in previous FFF's this track is more pop orientated, but this live track sounds a bit more rockier with Gackt's band performing it. This live track is over 7 minutes long because Gackt and his band take a break in the middle of the song to do a version of Dancemania ending with the Final Fantasy victory tune before picking up where they left the song. I doubt you'd see Morrissey do this sort of thing.

1. T.M. Revolution- Meteor (Live): the guitars in this track sound like they make this track triumphant whenever they kick in while the drums impact with a booming effect that can grab your attention, I like the live version of this track because Takanori stretches the last not and really sounds like he's putting his heart into it as it goes into an instrumental ending.

Five For Friday VI

Ah yes another Friday another five tracks, as we are near All Hallows Eve some of the tracks on today are somewhat linked with Halloween.

5. Lordi- Devil is a Loser

Finland's monster metal group, look like they're permanently dressed in their Halloween costumes (which look remarkably well made and are infact made by Mr. Lordi and his wife) this track highlights Lordi's as a non-satanic band (refering to the devil as Lordi's 'bitch')

4. X-Japan- I.V.

This track was featured in the film Saw IV and features some guitar tracks from their lead guitarist Hide who died in 1998, this song marked the first time the band had released a song since their disbandment in 1997. The video even features Hide's guitar on stage with the band and footage of Hide performing as he had a cult status amongst his fans.

3. SpeakLOW- Thriller

All this week on KCC Live we have been doing a competition which involved listeners phoning in whenever they heard Michael Jackson's Thriller. This version of the classic track is completely instrumental and sounds like a cross between Thriller, the theme tune of Shaft and Billie Jean. SpeakLOW are from Spain.

2. Gackt- Journey Through The Decade

The opening theme tune to Kamen Rider: Decade (Masked Rider Decade) both Gackt and the Kamen Rider Heisei era were celebrating their 10th annivarsaries though Kamen Rider Decade is actually the tenth series of the Kamen Rider Heisei series which began in 2000 and Gackt was in the group Malice Mizer from 1995 before becoming a solo performer in 1999. The song has some of the plot elements of Kamen Rider Decade including how the main character has to take a journey through 9 worlds and that he is a photographer.

1. Muse- Knights of Cydonia [Live]

Muse's Spaghetti Western space song in its full glory, live. The song has a more anthemic feel to it played live and the galloping drums and bass and to hear Wembley sing the lyrics gives a great atmosphere to the song.

Five For Friday Five

Another five tracks that I just can't seem to stop listening to, also if you're after more recommended music then check out Gobshite's Miscellany and their Featured Friday blog.

But as for me here's my 5 tracks.

5. Lostprophets- It's Not The End Of The World: Still trying to get into this track it doesn't have that Lostprophets feel to it but hey its progression.

4. MC Sniper- Better Than Yesterday: Korean hip hop at its finest from MC Sniper and his pals MR.Room9, DJ Road, MooWoong, TakTak36, DJ.R2, MC.BK and Outsider it's quite an epic sounding track.

3. t.A.T.u- How Soon Is Now: Fantastic cover of The Smiths classic, has a bit more spunk and energy than the original.

2. Nerina Pallot- Real Late Starter: Ever had one of those tracks that you listen to and it just seems to fit that precise moment in your life, this song kinda does at least for me.

1. T.M. Revolution- Burnin' X'Mas: OK I realise how ridiculously absurd it is to be listening to a christmas song in the middle of October but it is quite possibly the best Xmas song I have listened to that has a hint of cheese without being so cheesey you want to kill yourself.
