30 Day Song Challenge: Day 30 Your Favourite Song At This Time Last Year

Dragonland- Rusty Nail

A heavier cover version of the X-Japan song, while the guitar solo sounds out of place from the rest of the song, the vocals sound really strong and the vocalists ability to hold notes longer gives this version a more epic feel, that and it's strange to hear a Swedish metal group covering a J-Rock song and making it sound convincingly Japanese.

30 Day Song Challenge: Day 29 - A Song From Your Childhood

Eiffel 65- Blue (Da Ba Dee)

Ah the 90's with your cheesy Europop music, this was perhaps one of the most infectious song from that era. Well that and MmmBop by Hanson.

30 Day Song Challenge: Day 28 - A Song That Makes You Feel Guilty

Gackt- 届カナイ愛ト知ッテイタノニ抑エキレズニ愛シ続ケタ••• (Todokanai Ai To Shitteru No Ni Osae Kirezu Ni Aishitsuzuketa...)

When I did day 23 I completely forgot about this, perhaps one of the most epic rock ballads I have ever heard, ok Todokanai Ai To Shitteru No NBi Osae Kirezu Ni Aishitsuzuketa translates as 'Even Though My Love Will Never Reach You, I Still Love You Uncontrollably' and probably isn't wedding appropriate more stalker territory (though I've not read the translated lyrics) I think it'd still work, maybe.

30 Day Song Challenge: Day 27 - A Song That You Wish You Could Play

Dragonforce- Through The Fire And The Flames

Bit of an obvious choice I know, everyone banged on about this when it appeared on Guitar Hero but I wonder how many people actually tried to play this on the guitar?

30 Day Song Challenge: Day 26 - A Song That You Can Play On An Instrument

Bill Conti- Gonna Fly Now
Ok I can only play the opening bars of this song (thanks to someone in woirk showing me how to play it) I was shown how to play a bit more of it but I can't remember how the rest of it goes.

30 Day Song Challenge: Day 25 - A Song That Makes You Laugh

'Weird Al' Yankovic- Headline News

Tobe honest I could have picked any of Weird Al's songs, they're all brilliantly funny. A parody of Crash Test Dummies Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm, despite the fact I've listened to this song hundreds of times it's the sound effects used in the song that I always laugh at as well as the situations Al's dreamt up.

30 Day Song Challenge: Day 24 - A Song That You Want To Play At Your Funeral

Gackt- Journey Through The Decade

I suppose I could have gone with 'Only The Good Die Young' by Iron Maidne which would be ironic if I died as an old man. However this song seems to be more fitting, the first chorus has always made me think about the metaphor of life being a journey and how we never truly start our journey's nor do we finish them. Journey's are always started by our parents as they create us and put us on the path of life and even though there is the physical sense of death we tend to live on as 'legends', stories passed down to our children and their children.

30 Day Song Challenge: Day 23 - A Song That You Want To Play At Your Wedding

T.M Revolution- Meteor

To be honest I don't know if marriage is on the cards for me but if it was I'd like to hear this song being played by the DJ, it doesn't really have anything to do with love or marriage I just think it's one of those songs that should be played at a defining moment in a persons life.

30 Day Song Challenge: Day 22 - A Song That You Listen To When You’re Sad

Mai Yamane and The Seatbelts- Gotta Knock A Little Harder

No matter what mood I'm in whether it be sad or melencholy whenever I listen to this song it's as though the troubles of the world just melt away. It's also a great song to listen to when it's raining there's just something about this song which captures that moment perfectly.

30 Day Song Challenge: day 21 - A Song That You Listen To When You’re Happy

Gackt- Uncontrol (Live)

From personal gig experience there are few songs which sound better when performed live compared to the recorded article, Uncontrol is one such song, you can hear Gackt and GacktJob putting energy into their performance, it's one of my favourite songs from Gackt especially the live version on his live album. Even the remix of this track which he performed during his Are You Fried Chickenz tour last year in London to exceed the energy of the original track first found on his Rebirth album.

30 Day Song Challenge: Day 20 - A Song That You Listen To When You’re Angry

Blaze- Kill and Destroy

Ah this song got me through so many mornings on top of it being a track that I could listen to when angry, I tend to find that listening to a song with a title that is metaphorical to what people want to do when extremely angry is kind of cathartic.

30 Day Song Challenge: Day 19 - A Song From Your Favourite Album

My Chemical Romance- Na Na Na

Ok Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys isn't my favourite album, truth is I don't really have a favourite album so instead this is a song from the last album I bought.

30 Day Song Challenge: Day 18 - A Song That You Wish You Heard On The Radio

Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly.- Whitewash Is Brainwash

I feel that GCWCF in general is vastly underappreciated despite having a following of radio presenters who like his music but considering the music industry is more interested in autotuned artists who appear on glorified talent shows it is these artists who are pushed to the forefront while socially and politically minded artists with something valid to say in their music like GCWCF are left to the lower B and C list in the radio playlists.

30 Day Song Challenge: Day 17 - A Song That You Hear Often On The Radio

Jessie J ft B.O.B- Price Tag

Not much I can say about this song execpt that I seem to always hear it whenever I listen to the radio.

30 Day Song Challenge: Day 16 - A Song That You Used To Love But Now Hate

Nickelback- Rockstar

I wouldn't call it love per say, more I liked it and then it became boring because at the time I was listening to it heavily because it was on my radio shows back when I did commercial music shows. Listening back to it now I can't really see what the fuss was about.

30 Day Song Challenge: Day 15 - A Song That Describes You

Outsider- Alone

As I mentioned in the first of these blogs I found myself relating to some of Outsider's songs particularly this one. It's certain lines of the chorus which really stand out for me including:
I'm really scared of love and people
I'm afraid of being alone, I'm afraid of being forgotten
and
Always a loner, I close the door to my heart
bearing my sadness on my back, I live like a fool

30 Day Song Challenge: Day 14 - A Song That No One Would Expect You To Love

Take That- Shine

I think more than anything else it's the continuous piano playing which I like most, it's like someone recorded a bit of it and just looped it throughout the song, singings not that bad either.

Sunday, 13 March 2011

30 Day Song Challenge: Day 13 - A Song That Is A Guilty Pleasure

2AM and 2PM- Abracadabra

A Parody of the Brown Eyed Girls track of the same name, it's kinda of embarrassing how these two boy bands can sound quite out of tune in this song, I'm not sure whether that's a comment on them as a group or on the quality of Brown Eyed Girls. Still this song does make me laugh and the video is bizarre.

30 Day Song Challenge: Day 12 - A Song From A Band You Hate

Boxer Rebellion- Evacuate

The very simple reason I dislike this band is because I was going to see them live but they cancelled last minute and I couldn't get a refund because apparently the gig hadn't been cancelled according to the box office, despite the venue telling me the gig had been cancelled and the band saying they had cancelled.

30 Day Song Challenge: Day 11 - A Song From Your Favourite Band

Muse- Citizen Erased (Live)

Probably one of my favourite non-sing tracks from them its one of the few songs that I think can shift it's tempo and pace so effortlessly especially in a live scenario.

Thursday, 10 March 2011

30 Day Song Challenge: day 10 - A Song That Makes You Fall Asleep

Sigur Ros- Hoppipolla

It doesn't make me fall asleep but it is the ultimate chillout song, it does have a lullaby element to it.

Wednesday, 9 March 2011

30 Day Song Challenge: Day 09 - A Song That You Can Dance To

Miss A- Breathe

I tend to find myself doing the shoulder movements whenever I listen to the song, fortunately this is the only part of the dance I can successfully get away with doing in public

Tuesday, 8 March 2011

30 Day Song Challenge: Day 08 - A Song That You Know All The Words To

Muse- Bliss

I think it is fairly safe to assume a song that I have listened to and loved for ten years (jeez has it been that long?) would be a song I'd know the words to.

This song is important to me because it opened my ears to music and got me to appreciate the value of an album instead of just listening to a song when a radio station plays it. Kind of ironic that I feel that way and yet I have my own radio show.

30 Day Song Challenge: Day 07 - A Song That Reminds You Of A Certain Event

Guns N Roses- Sweet Child O' Mine

This reminds me of the last wedding I went to specifically because this song came on, the ties were around our heads and the air guitars were out, pity the powersliding ended in some ruined trousers and burnt knees.

This song was then followed up by a Metallica track, can't remember what it was but still, something you don't usually hear a wedding DJ put on.

30 Day Song Challenge: day 06 - A Song That Reminds You Of Somewhere

Scott and Aimee- So Cal Love

A song about California though the song reminds me of a visit to New Brighton a few years ago while trying to make good use of the buss pass I had while I still had it and for nostalgia sakes.

Anyway the song kind of reminds me of a sunrise/sunset (the beginning of the song representing sunrise and the end representing the sunset) though I wasn't really at New Brighton's beach for either.

30 Day Song Challenge: Day 05 A SongThat Reminds You of Someone

Stephanie- Friends

A song about moving on in life often leaving friends or friends leaving you behind. This song reminds me of the best friends who I'm not really in contact with any longer.

30 Day Song Challenge: Day 04 - A Song That Makes You Sad

Cyclone Effect (Acoustic) by Labor Day

The first time I heard this song was during an extremely powerful and moving scene in a show called Kamen Rider W, in which the two main characters, having defeated a deadly foe, were saying their final goodbyes as one of them disappeared from existence and this song just capture the sadness of the scene and the song itself left a lump in my throat when I listened to the song sans the scene, and while it doesn't make me as sad as it used to, I can't help but remember the scene it played under.

30 Day Song Challenge: Day 03 - A Song That Makes You Happy

Every time I hear this particular version of the theme tune, a shiver goes up my spine and I get excited, mainly because this theme tune is associated with a series that I really enjoyed.

I'd say the first 15 seconds of that big sound really grabs me and that's when the smile appears right through to the part referred to as 'The Chase' (The strings part)

Doctor Who Theme (2010) Arranged by Murray Gold and performed by the BBC Orchestra of Wales (I believe)

30 Day Song Challenge: Day 02 - Your Least Favourite Song

Nirvana- Smell's Like Teen Spirit

Maybe it's because I'm not a fan of the grunge scene or that I don't understand the whole context of the song and can't find anything in the song to connect with whether it's the instruments or the lyrics. Or it could just be I think that Smell's Like Teen Spirit is one of those songs which is overly hyped and it wasn't worth the hype (in my honest opinion).

The only good thing about Smell's Like Teen Spirit is it's parody Smell's Like Nirvana by Weird Al Yankovic which I think gets to the core of what I dislike about this song.

Anyway here is the song I dislike:

30 Day Song Challenge: Day 01 - Your Favourite Song

Instead of posting this on Facebook, I thought I'd do it on here and explain my choices a bit.

I recently came to the realisation that Hero by Outsider ft LMNOP is my favourite song, infact it's fair to say that he is my favourite artist.

His last few singles "Alone" and "Aquaintance" have connected with me because I could relate to the lyrics, well once I'd looked up the translations. On the other hand Hero isn't really like that, it's more a song which inspires, it's one of those songs that you'd put on when you feel the world closing in on you and it's one of those songs that, even though I've heard it hundreds of times, I've yet to grow bored of it.

Anyway here's the song in question:
